Colombia: Home of the Best Mild Washed Coffee in the World

Colombia is not only one of the largest producers of coffee on the planet, but also one of the most admired. The reason? Its unparalleled mild washed coffee, a product cultivated in the mountains, collected by hand and processed with techniques that elevate the quality of each bean.

The Colombian mountains, with altitudes between 1,200 and 2,000 meters above sea level, combined with a temperate climate and constant rainfall, create a perfect microclimate for the cultivation of the Arabica variety. Those factors allow for a slow growth of the bean, which favors a higher concentration of sugars and aromatic compounds.

One of the main distinctive factors of Colombian coffee is the harvesting and processing process:

  • Manual harvesting: Only ripe beans are collected.
  • Wet washing process: After a natural fermentation, the beans are washed with fresh water, which highlights the clarity of its flavors and its clean profile.

This process, mostly manual, guarantees a carefully selected and treated product, something that does not happen in many other producing regions of the world.

What does a Colombian Coffee taste like?

A good cup of soft washed Colombian coffee is characterized by:

  • Bright acidity (citric and juicy)
  • Medium and silky body
  • Caramel, chocolate, red fruits and citrus notes
  • Floral and sweet aroma
  • Clean and persistent aftertaste

These qualities make Colombian coffee an obligatory reference for roasters, baristas and coffee lovers all over the world.
